Who we are

Money Examined (moneyexamined.com) is an independent publisher of researched stories and books about money. For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected].

What we collect, and why

Newsletter. When you subscribe, we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. We use them only to send the Money Examined newsletter and related publication news. Every newsletter email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Book purchases. Payment happens on a secure checkout page hosted by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details; we never see or store your full card number. From Stripe we receive your email address, your name where provided, the amount paid and the payment status. We use this to deliver your book, send your purchase confirmation and download link, handle refunds and support, and keep the records that payment and tax rules require. Buying a book does not subscribe you to the newsletter.

Messages to us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and use it to reply.

Visiting the website. We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and the website does not set cookies of its own. Like any website, our hosting provider processes technical information such as your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends your IP address to Google when it fetches them.

Services that process your information

  • Cloudflare: hosts the website, runs our server functions and stores the book file and anonymous order-delivery records.
  • Stripe: processes payments and refunds and keeps payment records.
  • MailerSend: sends purchase confirmations, download links and refund confirmations.
  • EmailOctopus: stores newsletter subscribers and sends the newsletter.
  • Google: provides web fonts and the email inbox we use for support.

These providers process information on our behalf, under their own security and privacy terms, and may do so in the United States and other countries. Our email providers record delivery information, such as whether a message was delivered; if open or click tracking is switched on for an email, they also record opens and link clicks. We do not sell or rent your personal information.

Legal bases

Where data-protection laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on your consent for the newsletter (which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing), on the performance of a contract to sell and deliver a book, on legal obligations for payment and tax records, and on our legitimate interests in answering your messages and keeping the website secure.

How long we keep it

Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Purchase records are kept for as long as payment, accounting and tax obligations require. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, write to [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
